PREPARING FOR YOUR SPRAY TAN
Spray tanning involves applying an active ingredient Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) to your skin using a specialist low pressure spraying machine.
DHA is a colorless sugar which interacts with the proteins and amino acids in the outer layer of your skin with oxygen to produce a golden brown color.
To get the best results from your spray tan:
1.Remove dead skin cells by doing a full body exfoliation this needs to be done the night before!
2.Shave/wax at least 24 hours before. This allows pores to close again, otherwise resulting in a ‘plucked chicken’ effect from the tanning solution sitting in the open pores.
3.Deodorants and perfumes can prohibit the absorption of the solution, therefore these should be removed before the tan is applied.
4.Do not use moisturizers on the day of the tan as they can act as a barrier to the solution.
5. OPTIONAL: If you get airbrush tans often then you can apply Nail Polish to your toes nails as the tanning procedure over time can discolor your nails.
What Will Happen During My Treatment?
On your very first tanning session, I will ask you a number of questions and fill in a consultation form for you.
I will then ask you to remove your clothing, leaving on what you feel comfortable in.
The spraying will take about 10-15 minutes, plus a few extra minutes to dry – but in your own home feel free to walk about for as long as you like! The spraying takes place in a private room dedicated to airbrush tanning.
During treatment you will see the color on your skin. This is a guide color for myself to see while spraying. The tan will develop over 8 hours (max) into a gorgeous sunless tan. The guide color will be seen washing off during your initial shower.
WHAT DO I WEAR WHILST TANNING?
We advise to wear dark underwear ie: a thong or bikini bottoms whilst tanning and most women choose to go topless.
But we would like to advise you that we want you to feel comfortable, so you wear what suits you.
Men - Boxer shorts or shorts to be worn.
Nude is okay for either male or female.
HOW DARK WILL I GET?
There are different strengths of DHA, I will advise you of the one best suited to your skin tone, bearing in mind how dark you want to go. The darker you tan naturally, the darker you will go with a spray tan.
WHAT ABOUT STREAKING OR TURNING ORANGE?
Fake tanning has come a long way since the early days. Better solutions, machines, training and spray tan technology virtually eliminates these issues. Our Spray Therapists are experienced in producing non-streaky tans and will ensure the right solution is chosen for your coloring.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY TAN?
- Wait at least 8 hours before showering.
- Wear dark, loose clothing during the development time of the tan. The tan will wash out of most clothing but may stain lighter colored items. Tight clothing may also cause rub off, resulting in lighter patches on your skin.
- Do not do excessive exercise and perspire during the tans development time.
- Try not to take long baths or go swimming as chlorine will fade the tan quicker.
- Pat, Do not rub yourself dry after showering or bathing.
- Moisturize, is the key to keeping your tan, so do this EVERY day.
